The Howard walnut is an American walnut variety known for its high yield and frost resistance down to -25 °C. The walnuts are oval in shape, large in size and have thin, slightly rough shells that are easy to crack. The walnuts are of medium size 13−15 g, with high quality kernels with 90% lightness and a kernel yield of about 50%. The tree is medium-sized, with a compact crown, which allows efficient use of space when planting, characterised by lateral (lateral) bearing. The variety is suitable for dense plantings. Begins to bear nuts in the 3rd-4th year after planting. Howard is valued for its resistance to the main walnut diseases, high yield, early bearing, nuts quality and the possibility of dense planting, which makes it a popular choice among gardeners and farmers.
